Bro. Samuel Taylor
Born in 1772 Bro. Samuel Taylor was the first Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of England, being appointed to the post at the first Grand Lodge of England sessions in the Star Hotel in Manchester.
Samuel was also Justice of the Peace and Lieutenant Colonel in the Manchester and Salford Regiment of Volunteers (a unit which he personally raised and financed).
A memorial to Samuel Taylor, Esquire, of 'Moston and Eccleston in the County of Lancaster' is located in Manchester Cathedral (see image).
Samuel passed to higher service on 23rd October 1820 aged 48.
