Rapid Growth

In 1811, 3 years after the formation of The Grand Orange Lodge of England, there were 23 active Orange Lodges in existence, many of which were military lodges having been borne from returning militia.

Orangemen soon recruited civilians and saw rapid growth, the heart of the Orange Institution in England was to be the cotton towns of Lancashire and Manchester, and by 1830 there were over 70 recorded Orange Lodges active.
